Hi, My name is Savannah Spacil and I’m an Artist. I also have a brain tumor. I have had it for 11 years but I am doing really well now. I have had 30 surgeries. In 2010 I spent the whole summer in the hospital because of a surgery where they lengthened the tibia in my leg. I continue to have problems with the skin from where I had incisions, but I don’t let it keep me down… It’s just a part of my life.

I am a Senior in high school. I really like school and have a lot of really good friends. I have two aids who stay with me during the day at school and this year I’m a peer tutor in the special needs class. I really love the kids and love spending time with them! It makes me really happy when I’m able to help them!

The part of my brain that was destroyed from my tumor makes me hungry all the time. I try to keep myself busy so I don’t think about it. I love to color and create beautiful pictures. A couple of summers ago I showed my mom’s friend some of my artwork and she suggested to my mom that we create a website so I can post my artwork so everyone can see it and enjoy it. This has been a fun project for me!

The first project I completed was a calendar. My mom gave me some ideas as to things that I could color for each month. That was really fun. Now I’m just creating pages that I’ve designed and colored with crayons. Some others are coloring pages that I’ve colored using my own special technique of coloring.

A couple of years ago in school I took an art class and started pencil sketching so there are a few pencil sketches on the site now too. Last year I took a Pastels class and a watercolor class and some of my work from those classes are now on my site. I really enjoyed both those classes! I have a really awesome art teacher names Ms. Dimick. She’s taught me a lot! Next semester I’ll be taking an acrylics class. That should be lots of fun!

Oh yeah, a little bit more about me – I have a sister named Mandy and a brother-in-law named Dan. I have a niece named Lily who I absolutely adore and a cute little nephew named Bridger who is the cutest little boy in all the world and another nephew, Gibson who is the cutest baby in all the world! Here’s a picture of them making a face for my mom to take a picture of them!:

  1. Hi Savannah!
I met your Mom on Dream Boogie. I LOVE YOUR ART! I especially really, really love your happy flowers. You might want to think about selling prints of your work on Etsy. I am just starting to sell there, too. I don’t have anything for sale yet, but I will soon (I am learning how to make the best prints. When I figure it out I could tell you how to do it, too!)
In the meantime, you can look at my art on my website…www.vickiyoung.com. I am so glad you are able to enjoy the summer. You are a beautiful Artist and you have a wonderful Mom. I like her alot! And Bridger and Lily are so vibrant and cute!
    All the best!

    • Thank you very much for all the nice things you said. I’m glad you’ll come back and visit my website again. One of these days my Mom will get the rest of my artwork up on the website and you can see what I’ve been working on ;-). She told me to say this :-)

  3. Love your pictures! I haven’t gotten to see you since you were a little girl. I can’t believe you are going to be in high school! Love you sweetie, & your Dad & Mom. Be well & be happy–God bless you all–Aunt Dayna.

    • Thank you Aunt Dayna! My Mom and Dad said I was about 3 years old the last time we saw you. It has been a long time! High School is lots of fun. Love you too. Maybe one of these days we can see each other again!
